20-August-2009 - Stephenson 150years Railway Walk

The last of the Stephenson 150 Railway Walks took place on Sunday 16th August from Donaldson's Lodge to Twizel Viaduct, and dispite the appalling weather over 20 people turned out. Wisely everyone had brought wet weather gear so ready and raring to go we set out to Twizel Viaduct with the weather not having the slightest effect on the groups 'upbeat' attitude. Input from Jim Herbert about the history of the line and also the surrounding area (with help from his i-phone) meant that this wasn't just a walk as people learnt about the Twizel Bridge, Twizel Viaduct and also St Cuthberts Chapel. With the finish line in sight, the sun eventually poked through the clouds and finished off what was to be a very enjoyable walk. Many thanks to all of those who helped out on the day and I will look forward to seeing you all in the near future.
